About the dance

Msho Khr (also written Mshu Kher) is still widely danced today, especially among descendants of people from Sasun and Mush, and in villages around Talin and Armavir. It was first studied by the dance researcher Srbuhi Lisitsian. It is close to Kochari and is sometimes called “Sasna Kochari”.

Storytellers explain the word khr in several ways: a grey horse with reddish markings, the beat of hooves, or a butting, shoving contest. The dancers stand side by side, shoulder to shoulder, in a single line. The steps alternate deep knee bends on the left leg with small springs on the right.
